Ellie Perez, a native of Southern California and daughter of Mexican immigrants, brings a wealth of experience and a heartfelt dedication to her new role. With a background in advocacy and leadership within the LGBTQ community, Ellie’s appointment is a testament to her impactful contributions and unwavering commitment to marginalized voices.
Throughout her professional journey, Ellie has been a staunch advocate for queer and marginalized communities, catalyzed by her personal experiences of rejection and discrimination. Her advocacy work includes involvement in campaigns such as the Courage Campaign’s fight against Proposition 8 and serving as one of the inaugural Board Members for the Latino Equality Alliance in East LA.
Ellie’s professional experience also includes pivotal roles at the LA Unified School District, where she advocated for immigrant families and students with disabilities. As a mother of a transgender child, Ellie has continued her advocacy for transgender youth, striving to ensure they receive comprehensive support in healthcare and social services.
Upon her appointment, Ellie Perez expressed her profound honor in leading the LGBTQ Center Long Beach. She highlighted the importance of The Center as a vital resource for the community, offering services ranging from STI/HIV testing to mental health resources and access to legal services.
