Lady Buds Documentary Screening Brings Awareness to Women in Cannabis, Their Advocacy, and Effects of Stigmatized Regulations.

Long Beach, CA – The Long Beach Green Room and The Art Theatre Long Beach team up on Saturday July 9th, 2022, from 1pm to 3:30pm at the historic theater for a screening of the 2021 documentary release Lady Buds, in an effort to engage the community through educational art. The event will also feature special guest speakers before and after the film, including introductions by Adam Hijazi, the operator of the LB Green Room, and Felicia Carbajal, intersectional community organizer and activist highlighted in Lady Buds. After the screening, theater guests are encouraged to participate in a Q&A session to get their burning cannabis questions answered.

The film itself, according to the synopsis on the Lady Buds website, “tells the story of six courageous women who [came] out of the shadows of the cannabis underground to forge a path to legalization. With deep-pocketed corporations taking over the industry, these trailblazers [risked] everything to make their American Dream come true in the market they helped create.” The documentary has gone on to draw in eight different Official Selection screenings at prominent film festivals, and has won several accolades, counting the inclusive Mind The Gap award at Mill Valley Film Festival.

Each event host boasts a clear track record of celebrating the spirit of community through good works. The Art Theatre holds at least one monthly screening centered on historical or educational value. The Long Beach Green Room participates in charitable events, including unhoused outreach and neighborhood cleanups, with frequent community partners AOC7 and other groups.

Ticket proceeds from this event are distributed as fundraising between the Art Theatre Long Beach and Lady Buds filmmaking team. Showtime is at 1pm and will run through 3:30pm, including speaking engagements. Parking for the screening is available along 4th Street. Tickets are available on-site at the Art Theatre or on their website.
